    Deadly Diet: Black Bears

    Black BearNow we are in the season where black bears are feeding heavily, getting ready for the winter months, and we are seeing them frequently in the areas.  Those that have become more accustomed to people can be seen wandering in the areas of cabins or campgrounds.  It’s important this time of year to remind folks:

    PLEASE DON’T FEED THE BEARS!

    Feeding a bear becomes a death sentence for the animal, as they learn to eat from humans and not forage on their own, they will become a nuisance bear in a short period of time.  In addition, many of the “vacation foods” that people have on hand and want to share with the bears are deadly to them.  The three most toxic foods for bears are:

    Hot Dogs                 Watermelon Rinds                  Chicken Bones

    So enjoy and love the bears, but keep them away from your dinner!
